QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or its equivalency.
- In accordance with federal guidance, an Associate's Degree or 60 semester hours of coursework
documented on an official transcript from an accredited institution of higher education; or
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality as demonstrated through the passage of a formal state
assessment: Para Pro, ACT Workkeys, or Master Teacher's Para Educator Learning Network.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board may find appropriate and
acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Teacher
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 months JOB GOAL: See school philosophy.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with attendance reports including registers, absence slips and admission slips.
- Assists with entering grades onto report cards and the teacher's record book.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies, books, furniture, etc.
- Retrieves supplies from the supply room.
- Cleans audio-visual equipment assigned to the classroom.
- Files student's work as needed.
- Assists in operating audio-visual equipment, including getting it ready before a lesson and operating it during a lesson.
- Prepares and runs off duplicator materials including transparencies as needed by the teacher. Types tests and other materials for the teacher.
- Obtains pictures, books, makes charts, and prepares classroom displays and chalkboard presentations.
- Corrects written work such as tests, workbooks, spelling tests, etc.
- Participates in appropriate training programs set up by the school district.
- Monitors students to and from the cafeteria, library, music, PE and playgrounds.
- Handles routine interruptions-notes from other teachers, messages, deliveries, and routine phone call.
- Assists the teachers in seeing that seatwork is completed.
- Assists special program teachers during those periods.
- Distributes routine notices to the students.
- Handles routine opening exercises such as pledge of allegiance, opening songs and health inspections, etc.
- Assists the teachers in such activities as: using earphones, arithmetic and word drill games,
musical accomplishment, dictation of spelling words, and reading stories to the students.
- Works with small groups and selected individuals to reinforce the teacher's instructions.
- Supervises school duty areas including but not limited to playground, lunch, before and after
school, etc.
- Provides directed activities for small groups to learn games.
- Assists in keeping order and enforce classroom rules.
- Any other duties as assigned by the certificated classroom teacher.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated twice a year in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
