SCHOOL SECRETARY
Position Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma, preferably some secretarial training.
- Must have previous secretarial experience including organizational skills, office management and ability to meet and work with staff, students and public.
- Must be computer literate and ability to type at least 60 words per minute with reasonable accuracy.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal or his/her designee.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 months per school calendar. WORKING HOURS: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with 1 hour unpaid lunch.
JOB GOAL: To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the school office so that the office's maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs the usual office routines and practices associated with a busy yet productive and smooth
running office.
- Directs and assists in typing memos, correspondence, bulletins, lists, requisitions, budgets,
statistical reports, student records and other materials.
- Receives and routes all incoming calls.
- Maintains a daily staff attendance log and forms.
- Responds to inquiries from parents, students, teachers and administrators with information of a
routine nature.
- Maintains financial, statistical and other records.
- May handle money or oversee the work of others.
- Assists with the school register as directed by the Principal.
- Oversees all incoming and outgoing mail.
- Responsible for inventorying the supply room.
- Responsible for ordering teaching supplies from the school warehouse.
- Responsible for receiving, checking and distributing all purchase orders.
- Maintains the permanent student record files.
- May perform duties in the absence of the office clerk.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
